Role

Product designer, Interaction designer

Duration

Jan - May 2023

Restaurants seeks a solution to make the ordering and management seamless & faster from a point of sale?

Project Scope

Design novel product concepts for restaurant POS to help wiht the needs of guests, waitstaff, and kitchen teams.

Deliverable

Conduct primary research, ideate and construct a system to streamline order, employee, and table management.

BACKGROUND STORY

Restaurant owners use retailcloud solutions to streamline their operations.

PROBLEMS

..but the Isolated menu and payment options makes it difficult to use.

Although the existing systems provided payment options, they were not available all in one place along with menu and doesn't provided the amount to pay for each options unless they are selected.

Additionally there is a lack of table management features like merging/splitting, customer preferences and allergies.

Traditional table management systems lack features such as splitting or merging tables directly from a POS, tracking payment statuses, accommodating customer preferences or allergies based on their orders, and allowing order modifications for guests.

Finding out what works

I generated wireframes to determine the optimal way of presenting a menu, enabling waitstaff to efficiently choose products within categories, add them to the cart, view available payment options, observe the corresponding amounts for each method, and visualize the restaurant's table layout with indication to customer and order details.

Visual design - Transaction cart

Ordering from menu

“Waiters take orders by selecting items and sending them to the kitchen.”

Checking out cart

Waiters can add customers for loyalty points and accept payments with auto-calculated totals.

Table management and customer preferences

Servio allows orders from different sources including instore, phone, online and delivery. The instore orders are displayed based on the table layout with ability to merge and split tables. The tables can be assigned to waiters and they are color coded based on the customer ordering. Yellow if the table is occupied and there is no order yet. Green if the order is placed. Red if the customer is spending a lot of time dining. There are indications on tables showing the allergy warning based on the customer preference and alert if the customer have not added payment details to avoid possible dine and dash.

Key takeaways

  • Streamline order-taking with Servio as waiters easily navigate and add items to the cart, sending orders promptly to the kitchen.

  • Enhance customer loyalty by attaching enrolled customers to orders, earning loyalty points seamlessly.

  • Servio calculates and displays payable amounts, inclusive of discounts and taxes, ensuring a smooth and- transparent payment process.
